7月のごあいさつ　夏は「ヒアガーデン」

どこまでも青い夏空に入道雲がまぶしく輝き、日ごと暑さがつのる季節となりました。

今月1日、ANAは羽田─釧路線就航50周年の節目を迎えました。半世紀にもわたりご利用いただいているすべてのお客さま、関係者の皆さまに心より感謝申し上げます。

さて、皆さまは釧路と聞いて何をイメージされますか。広大な湿原、炉端焼き発祥の地、あるいは「ラッコのクーちゃん」ブームを思い浮かべる方もいらっしゃるかもしれません。私にとっての釧路・道東は「想定外のサプライズ」で心を満たしてくれる地です。

最初の「想定外」は、10年近く前の8月の夜に訪れた、ビアガーデンならぬ「ヒア（冷）ガーデン」でした。「ヒアガーデン？」 怪訝（けげん）な思いで行ってみると、そこはごく普通の公園に酒類だけを提供する屋台を設えた会場。なんと熱燗で乾杯する人たちもいるではないですか！

真夏に20度に満たぬ釧路の夜風はややもすると肌寒いほどで、「ヒアガーデン」というネーミングの秀逸さになるほど！と唸（うな）りました。

当時、料理は近隣のお店から電話一本ですぐに運ばれるシステムでした。こんなサービスモデルは聞いたことがありません。何と楽しい仕組みだろうと感動しました。「夏の釧路は市内を冷やしてお客さまをお待ちしているんです」とユーモアたっぷりに笑う釧路市観光振興室のAさんの言葉が今も忘れられません。

あれから時を経て、さながら町内会の盆踊り会場の風情だった「ヒアガーデン」は、今や観光客や地元の方に愛されて大発展を遂げていると伺いました。「ごく普通の公園」からリバーサイドに会場を移し、電話せずともキッチンカーなどで釧路の美食・美酒を堪能できるビッグイベントとして、今年も8月中旬に開催されるそうです。

釧路は自然の美しさも「想定外」です。まずは海霧（じり）。世界三大夕日の輝きを背に広がる幻想的な光景は、まるで別世界へと誘うようです。次に釧路湿原。細岡展望台から眺める湿原は「ここは日本か？」と思わせる絶景で、地球の悠久の歴史すら感じさせます。阿寒湖も外せません。雄阿寒岳の雄姿を背景に、原生林に囲まれた神秘的な湖は、その静けさと相まって人智を超えた何かを感じさせてくれます。マリモの完璧な球形を目にすると、自然の力の不思議さを実感します。遊覧船に乗ってゆる〜く湖上の島を巡るのが私のおすすめです。

最後の「想定外」がアイヌ古式舞踊。阿寒湖畔の温泉街の西端に、古くからアイヌの人々が暮らしている道内最大級のアイヌコタン（集落）があります。専用の劇場で繰り広げられる古式舞踊は、炎に照らされ、神々（こうごう）しい響きの歌と大地を踏みしめる踊りで、見る者の魂を揺さぶります。

先日、Aさんと再会する機会にめぐまれました。思い出話に花を咲かせる中、Aさんが一言、「夏も素晴らしいですが、冬の魅力もひとしおですよ」。そうです、冬の釧路も、「想定外」だらけです。気温マイナス15度の2月、凍結した阿寒湖上でのフロストフラワーを見に集まる大勢の観光客。猛禽類のバードウォッチングを目当てに毎年来るという欧米の旅行客。釧路の素晴らしさは世界をも惹きつけるのです！　「観光客の皆さまのおかげで、私自身も“四季折々の釧路の良さ”に気づけました」というAさん。地元の方の何げない日常こそが、私たちをワクワクさせてくれます。ANAはこれからもその魅力を伝え、お客さまと地元の皆さまとの架け橋でありたいと改めて思いました。

この夏、涼やかな風が吹き抜ける釧路へ旅してみてはいかがでしょうか。釧路の皆さまが「市内を冷やして」待っていてくださるはずです。ANAも皆さまのご搭乗を50周年の感謝を込めてお待ちしております。

Summer is beer— I mean, “Here.”

It’s that season again. Thunderhead clouds fill the endless blue summer skies as temperatures rise day by day.

ANA celebrated its 50th anniversary of the launch of our Haneda-Kushiro route on the first of this month. From the bottom of our hearts, we extend our gratitude to everyone who has been a part of this journey half a century in the making.

What comes to mind when you hear “Kushiro?” Some people may think of the vast wetlands, the origins of robatayaki grilling, or even the craze for “Ku-chan” the sea otter. As for myself, Kushiro and eastern Hokkaido are places my heart calls home to “unexpected surprises.”
I had my first unexpected surprise in Kushiro on an August night about 10 years ago at the “Here (Hiya)* Garden”—not a “beer garden.”

Puzzled and curious as to what the Here Garden was, I made my way on over to find that it was simply an event in an ordinary park with only alcohol-vending booths. Even more surprising were the venue customers toasting with hot sake even though it was the middle of summer! However, realizing that even in summer, Kushiro can go below 20°C and thinking about the chilly evening breeze, I was so impressed by the beauty of the naming, it made me exclaim, ‘Wow, that’s brilliant!’

At the time, the venue had a system where food from nearby restaurants could be ordered with just a phone call. I had never heard of such a system until then, and I was impressed by how much fun it was. I’ll never forget what Mr. A of Kushiro City’s Tourism Promotion Office told me. With a humorous, hearty laugh, he said, “In the summer, the city cools down and waits for its customers.”

The Here Garden has changed with the times, going from resembling the look and feel of traditional Bon Odori festivals for neighborhood associations to a hit event enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. The venue has also been relocated from its rather ordinary park to the riverside. The Here Garden will be held in mid-August again this year, and is looking to be a big event complete with food trucks to enjoy the city’s delicious food and alcohol without having to call and place an order.

Another unexpected thing about Kushiro was the natural beauty found there. First is the sea fog and the glow it creates along the expanding horizon of one of the top three sunsets in the world. You’ll feel like you’re being invited to another world. Next are the Kushiro Wetlands.

The view of the wetlands from Hosooka Observatory makes you question if you’re even in Japan, and better yet, allows you to “feel” Earth’s eternal history laid out before your eyes. The beauty of Lake Akan must also be accounted for. Along with the tranquility, the sight of the mystical lake enclosed in virgin forests in the foreground of the majestic Mt. Oakan makes you feel something that seemingly transcends human understanding. You’ll also come to see the wonders of nature’s power in the perfectly spherical marimo algae. I recommend taking a tour boat for some sightseeing around the islands on the lake.

My last unexpected surprise was the traditional dance of the Ainu people. On the shores of Lake Akan on the western outskirts of this hot spring town is one of the largest Ainu kotans (traditional Ainu villages) in Hokkaido, where the Ainu have lived for generations. The fire-illuminated dance is performed in a theater made just for that purpose, and the powerful dance and chants shake both the earth and the souls of those who witness it.

I recently had the chance to meet with Mr. A again, and as we reminisced, he mentioned that although Kushiro summers were wonderful, winter was even more charming. Indeed, winter too has unexpected surprises. In February, even when temperatures drop to as low as -15°C, many tourists gather on Lake Akan’s frozen surface to admire the frost flowers. Western birdwatchers also gather to see birds of prey. Kushiro truly is a splendid place that attracts people from across the world! Mr. A says, “I have become more aware of the beauty in each season thanks to Kushiro’s tourists.” What is just “daily life” for locals here is a world of excitement for others. This reminded me of the bridge that ANA strives to serve as, to connect our local residents and our customers.

Why not take a trip to enjoy the cool breeze in Kushiro this summer? The locals are surely “cooling the city” and awaiting your arrival. ANA is also looking forward to having you for the Kushiro route’s 50th anniversary.
*“Here” is a pun on the Japanese word hiya, which means “cool/cold,” and “hiya garden” itself another pun on “beer garden.”

夏天的“清凉花园”

湛蓝的夏日晴空一望无际，积雨云在阳光下闪耀发亮，又到了日渐炎热的时节。

本月1日，全日空迎来了羽田－钏路航线开通50周年的重要时刻。衷心感谢半个世纪以来搭乘的所有乘客与相关人员。

大家一听到北海道的钏路，会联想到什么呢？是辽阔的湿地？还是炉端烧的发源地？或许也有人会想起红极一时的“海獭小空（Ku-chan）”。对我来说，钏路与道东是总能带来惊喜、让人心灵充实的地方。

我第一次经历“惊喜”，是在将近十年前的八月份的夜晚。我造访的“啤酒花园”其实竟然是“清凉花园”。当时我带着“什么叫清凉花园”的疑惑前去一探究竟，结果发现那不过是在一个普通公园里，设有仅贩卖酒类的简易摊位的场地。而在那里有人举杯喝着热清酒。正当惊讶于“为什么在盛夏时节喝热酒”时，我感受到了不足20度的清凉夜风，顿时明白“什么叫清凉花园”。让我不由赞叹这个命名真是贴切。

当时，只需一通电话，就能立刻从附近的店铺点来外卖。我从未听说过这样的服务模式，觉得感慨不已。至今我仍记得，钏路市观光振兴科室的A氏带着幽默的语气笑着说：“为了迎接客人们的到来，夏天的钏路特地把整座城市都降温了。”

时过境迁，曾经如同社区盂兰盆舞会场般的“清凉花园”，如今已成为深受游客与当地人喜爱的活动。这个隆重的活动已从“普通的公园”搬迁至河岸边的新会场，无需电话预约，即可在餐车摊位尽享钏路的美食与美酒。今年也将于8月中旬如期举行。

钏路的大自然之美也充满“惊喜”。首先要提到的是海雾。在“世界三大夕阳”之一的光辉映照下，弥漫的海雾构成梦幻般的景象，仿佛把人带入另一个世界。接着是钏路湿原。从细冈展望台眺望湿原，会让人不禁怀疑“这里真的是日本吗？”这片壮阔的风景能令人感受到地球亿万年历史的气息。阿寒湖也不容错过，在雄伟的雄阿寒岳映衬下，被原始森林环绕的神秘湖泊，以它的宁静氛围，让人感受到一种超越人类认知的自然力量。如果亲眼看到完美球形的绿球藻，一定能深刻体会到大自然的神奇力量。建议搭乘游览船，环绕湖上的小岛悠闲巡游。

最后一个“惊喜”是阿伊努族的古式舞蹈。在阿寒湖畔温泉街的西端，有一个自古以来便有阿伊努人居住的聚落——北海道规模最大的阿伊努村落。古式舞蹈在专门的剧场中上演。在火焰的映照下，神圣庄严的歌声与脚踏大地的舞姿深深震撼着每一位观众的心灵。

前些日子，我有幸与A氏重逢。在我们畅谈往日回忆时，A氏说了一句：“夏天固然迷人，但冬天的魅力也格外不同凡响。”没错，冬日的钏路，也处处充满“惊喜”。在气温低至零下15度的2月，众多游客聚集在冰封的阿寒湖上观看霜之花。还有那些每年专程从欧美前来，只为一睹猛禽风采的观鸟爱好者。钏路的魅力，已然吸引世界的目光！A氏说：“多亏了观光客们，我才留意到钏路四季更迭之美。”当地人看似平凡的日常生活，让我们感到新奇。我也再次深感使命——全日空今后也要继续传递钏路的魅力，成为连接游客与当地居民的桥梁。

这个夏天，何不踏上前往凉风习习的钏路之旅呢？相信钏路的市民们，已经“降温整座城市”，静候各位的到来。全日空也怀着五十周年的感恩之情，诚挚期待各位的搭乘。
