緑陰に蝉時雨（せみしぐれ）が降り注ぐ日本の夏となりました。遠い子どもの頃に想いを馳（は）せ、懐かしの地にもう一度出かけたいと計画されている方も多いのではないでしょうか。あるいは見知らぬ土地を旅したいとお考えの方もいらっしゃるかもしれません。そんな皆さまに、今一番おすすめしたいのはオーストリアのウィーンです。数年前、友人の勧めで妻と訪れたところ、様々な魅力が輝きを放つ宝石箱のような街に、夫婦揃って魅了されてしまいました。

ウィーンには、建築や音楽などで有名な歴史的名所が数多くあります。街自体が世界遺産であり芸術そのものであるウィーン歴史地区や、シュテファン大聖堂、国立歌劇場などが日常の中にあり、誰でも気軽に訪れることができます。

「音楽の都」としても名高く、ウィーン・フィルをはじめとする様々な楽団による多種多様な演目が、365日あちこちのホール、教会、公園で奏でられているのを見て驚きました。オペラももちろん生演奏ですが、映画を見るくらいの金額で冒頭の1時間だけ聴いて帰る、という贅沢な楽しみ方もあります。大切に保存されてきた歴史的な建物の中で、ヨハン・シュトラウスやベートーヴェンなどの偉大な音楽家の作品を質の高い演奏で気軽に味わう、音楽を生活の一部として愛する人が多い街なのです。

食文化も大きな魅力です。「バイスル」という気軽な街の食堂からワイン居酒屋やワイナリー直営の酒場でユネスコ無形文化遺産でもある「ホイリゲ」、カフェにスイーツ専門店まで、食の楽しみ方に多様性があって飽きることがありません。普段あまり甘いものを食べない私をも魅了したザッハトルテは絶品でした。

私が特に惹きつけられたのは、長い歴史の蓄積を大切にしながら、現代の文化も「現在進行形」で取り入れ、それらを見事に融合させている点です。古代ローマ時代の風情を残す街角に溶け込む、前衛的なアート作品や建築物。歴史的な街並みを大切にしながらも、スマートシティ化を目指し、街全体で路面電車やバスの省エネが進められています。最近では日本食も増え、何と今のウィーンっ子のアイスクリームの定番の味は「抹茶」だそうです。

この光景に思いを巡らせたとき、私の頭には、大公マリア・テレジアと皇妃エリザベートが浮かびます。16人の子を持ちながら、ハプスブルク帝国の繁栄を築いたマリア・テレジアの優れたリーダーシップとマネジメント力。そして、伝統と格式を重んじるハプスブルク家の中でも、屈せず自分の価値観や信念を貫き続けたエリザベートのレジリエンス。この偉大な女性2人が象徴する気風は、独自のアイデンティティを持ちながら、新しい文化を前向きに取り込み、進化し続けていくウィーンの人々に今も受け継がれているのではないかと感じます。2人にゆかりの深い、シェーンブルン宮殿やシシィ博物館などを巡ってみるのもおすすめです。

ANAは今月からウィーン線を再開します。重厚な文化と斬新性、その見事なハーモニーを五感全部で何度も味わえる街です。『サウンド・オブ・ミュージック』のロケ地・ミラベル宮殿やモーツァルトの生家のあるザルツブルクも近く、少し足を延ばせばチェコ、ハンガリー、ポーランドなど、東欧各国にもアクセスできます。

Traveling to Europe’s crown jewel of Vienna

In Japan, the ever-present drone of cicadas camouflaged against shady trees means summer has arrived. In this season, many Japanese people reminisce about their childhood and plan trips to their hometowns. Others may take vacations to completely new places. If you’re considering such a trip, my top recommendation is Vienna, Austria. I visited the city with my wife several years ago upon a friend’s recommendation, and we were both enchanted by the city’s beauty, glittering like a crown jewel.

Vienna is full of historical buildings of architectural note and is famous for its musical heritage. The city itself is like a museum, and the historic city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Anyone can visit magnificent locations such as St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Vienna State Opera.

Vienna is famous as a city of music. An eclectic range of musical programs are performed by the Vienna Philharmonic, alongside many other orchestras in concert halls, cathedrals and public parks nearly every day of the year. For opera, you can enjoy a full live performance, or take in just the first hour for the price of a movie ticket. With such easy access to performances of majestic works by great composers like Johann Strauss and Ludwig van Beethoven in exquisitely preserved historical buildings, it’s no wonder that music has remained such an integral part of life in Vienna.

Another attraction is the city’s culinary culture. Vienna offers all kinds of eateries, from cafes and patisseries to rustic bistros (Beisl) and wine bars, as well as traditional winery taverns (Heuriger) registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. You will never get bored of dining out in Vienna. Although I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, I fell in love with the exquisite flavor of Viennese Sachertorte (chocolate cake).

It’s fascinating to see how Vienna values its long history while embracing current cultural trends, combining old and new in exciting ways. Avant-garde artwork and modern buildings are effortlessly juxtaposed against streets that retain a Roman-era charm. Even with its traditional, historical cityscape, Vienna is taking steps toward becoming a smart city, including energy-conserving streetcar and bus transportation throughout the city. Recently, Japanese food has grown in popularity, too, and matcha (green tea) ice cream is a new favorite among young Viennese.

When I reflect on this aspect of Vienna, Maria Theresa, ruler of the Habsburg dominions, and Empress Elisabeth of Austria come to mind. Despite having 16 children, Maria Theresa guided the Habsburg Empire through prosperous times thanks to her wise leadership. Empress Elisabeth was a resilient woman who maintained individual values and convictions, despite being a member of the House of Habsburg, which emphasized tradition and status. Vienna has maintained its own identity while continuing to evolve by accepting new cultures. I wonder if the qualities these two great women represented continue to be valued by citizens today? Both women are closely connected to the Schönbrunn Palace and the Sisi Museum, two places also worth visiting.

In nearby Salzburg, visitors can see Mozart’s birthplace, alongside Mirabell Palace and set locations for the film The Sound of Music. Vienna also offers convenient access to many other countries in Eastern Europe, like the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.

飞往宝石盒之都维也纳！

日本时值盛夏，绿荫下蝉鸣声此起彼伏。我想一定有很多人都会怀念越走越远的童年，计划再次去看看那些有过美好回忆的地方吧。也许也有人想去一个未知的地点旅行。如果您有这个打算，那么我强烈推荐您去奥地利维也纳。几年前，我和妻子因朋友的推荐而来到这里，面对宛如绽放着各种魅力的珠宝盒般的城市，我俩完全为她所折服。

美景宫也是一座美术馆，其红色大理石厅中的湿壁画，是出自意大利画家卡洛·卡洛内之手。

维也纳拥有许多因建筑或音乐等而闻名的历史古迹。本身既是世界遗产又是艺术品的维也纳历史街区、圣斯蒂芬大教堂以及国家歌剧院就在日常生活中，任何人都可随意造访。

维也纳也被誉为“音乐之都”，令我惊讶的是这里有维也纳爱乐乐团以及各种乐团，一年365天在各处的礼堂、教会和公园进行丰富多彩的演出。歌剧的音乐当然也是现场演奏，但有一种奢侈的观剧方式——如果观众只听开头的1个小时就回家，那么只需支付相当于一张电影票的金额。在被精心保存的历史建筑里，人们可以轻松地欣赏到高品质弹奏约翰・施特劳斯、贝多芬等伟大音乐家的作品，许多人热爱音乐并将其作为生活的一部分。

饮食文化也极具魅力。从名为“Beisl”的休闲街头餐馆，到被联合国教科文组织指定为非物质文化遗产的酒庄直营的酒馆和“Heuriger”酒吧，再到咖啡馆和特色甜品店，享受美食的方式多种多样，所以您永远不会感到无聊。正如堪称极品的萨赫蛋糕，甚至深深吸引了平时很少吃甜食的我。

维也纳最为吸引我的地方，在于她一方面珍视自身悠久的历史，同时又以“现在进行时”吸收现代文化，并将这些元素完美地融合在一起。风格前卫的艺术作品或建筑物完美地融合在保留了罗马时代氛围的街角；在重视具备历史意义的街景的同时，整个城市正在以建设智慧城市为目标，大力推广有轨电车和公共巴士的节能等，。最近，日本食品的数量有所增加，据说如今维也纳年轻人爱吃的冰淇淋中，“抹茶”已成为常规口味。

当我想起这个场景时，脑海里浮现起玛丽亚・特蕾莎大公和伊丽莎白皇后的形象。玛丽亚・特蕾莎育有16个孩子，但同时她运用卓越的领袖才干和统治能力建立了哈布斯堡帝国的繁荣。还有伊丽莎白的坚韧不拔，即使置身于重视传统和规矩的哈布斯堡家族中，她也没有屈服，而是继续坚持自己的价值观和信仰。我觉得今天的维也纳人正是传承了两名伟大女性所象征的风骨，一方面拥有独立的个性，与此同时积极拥抱新文化并不断进化。也建议您一同参观与这两位有着深厚渊源的美泉宫和茜茜公主博物馆等。
